Writing the books that make MongoDB click.

I'm Ranjeet Jha — author of MongoDB Essentials and MongoDB Administrator's Guide: a hands-on manual for the people who keep production clusters healthy at 3 a.m. Both books are available now — and 2026 also brought home DevOps Professional of the Year.

MongoDB Administrator's Guide

Deploy with confidence. Secure by design. Optimize for speed. Scale without limits.

The production operations playbook for DBAs and SREs who own MongoDB clusters — deployment architectures, replica sets and failover, sharding, backup and disaster recovery, performance tuning, security hardening, monitoring, and zero-downtime upgrades. Written for MongoDB 8.

Inside MongoDB Administrator's Guide

What the new book covers. Click a chapter to expand.

Standalone vs. replica set vs. sharded cluster — how to choose, size, and provision for your actual workload. Hardware, filesystems, ulimits, NUMA, and the production checklist most teams learn the hard way.
Elections, oplog sizing, read/write concerns, hidden and delayed members, and how to survive a primary failover without your application ever noticing.
Choosing a shard key you won't regret, balancing, chunk management, zone sharding, and resharding strategies when the data outgrows the original plan.
mongodump vs. filesystem snapshots vs. continuous backup, point-in-time recovery with the oplog, and rehearsing the restore you hope you'll never need.
Reading explain plans like a pro, index strategies for real query shapes, the WiredTiger cache, profiler workflows, and finding the query that's eating your cluster.
Authentication, role-based access control, TLS everywhere, encryption at rest, auditing — plus the metrics and alerts that catch trouble before your users do.
// About the Author

Hi, I'm Ranjeet.

Ranjeet Jha

I write about databases the way I wish someone had written for me: practical, honest, and grounded in production reality.

My first book, MongoDB Essentials, helps developers go from zero to shipping real applications on MongoDB. The response from readers convinced me there was a second, harder story to tell — what happens after you ship.

That's what MongoDB Administrator's Guide is about: keeping clusters fast, safe, and recoverable when real traffic and real failures show up. It is about reliability, performance, low-latency and high throughput. Both books are published and available now.
